FREE: Hemp Washcloth Pattern Knitting

Skill Level: Beginner

Size: 21cm x 21cm (8.5” x 8.5”)

Materials • 4mm straight needles • 4mm double pointed needles • Hemp for Knitting Allhemp 6 (80g/122m, 100% long fibre hemp: 1 skein will make 2 washcloths) • Darning needle

Gauge 22 sts & 28 rows = 4 inches in stocking stitch Abbreviations K knit P purl Instructions Using long tail method, cast on 43 stitches. Knit 4 rows. Next Row: Knit entire row Next Row: K 4, purl to last 4 sts, k4. Repeat the last 2 rows until piece measures 19.5 cm (8”), ending with a RS Row. Knit 4 rows. Cast off (be careful not to cast off too tight).

I-cord With 2 double pointed needles pick up and knit 3 stitches on corner of cloth. Push the stitches to the opposite (right hand) end of the needle. Knit the first stitch pulling the working yarn firmly across the back of the work to the right. Knit the remaining 2 stitches. Repeat the last row until cord measures 12cm (4.5”). Sew down end with darning needle, making a loop with the cord. Finishing • Weave in ends & wash.
