Randomly Striped Noro Pillow

I finished another Striped Pillow in Noro this week, and I'm really happy with this one. I'll publish the pattern once I get everything right, it is strangely fussy because the ease (the amount of space between you/pillow and the sweater) is very important and because the tension changes once it is blocked/washed and fitted on the pillow. So basically, it's important to get it to fit just right. The Noro Blossom/mohair combo stretched much more than the Silk Garden/Lamb's Pride Worsted. I'm going to give it another shot with a Noro Silk Garden and Berroco Ultra Alpaca version (in different colours), and I'll swatch the pair by making a Turn a Square Hat (but with random stripes)

I'm very happy with this colour combo, both are colours/yarns which I love, so seeing them together makes me doubly happy.  

Silk Garden Pillow

My third Noro Pillow is coming along nicely, I've been slotting in some knitting in between flower sessions for the Bike).  This one has been a little challenging  because the Silk Garden is not knitting in the same way or to the same gauge as the Blossom. I'm not sure if it will fit the intended 19" x 19" pillow, I'll have to block it and see how much give it has.  Otherwise, it is lovely knitting. The Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted makes a nice contrast yarn since it is also a single ply and has a slight halo to it. The colours are working out too, and I've finally accepted that the opening in the middle is the best way to go (it's kinda cute & sweatery anyway). This one will probably be the prototype for a pattern. The previous two versions, both knit in Noro Blossom, which is discontinued, behaved quite differently and the closures aren't really as cute as this one.

Hidey-Ho Knitterinos!

I have been working hard, trying to make things in the sofa region (sofaville? the village of chesterfield? love seat land?).  I have completed my second Noro Striped Pillow, this one is 19" x 19" and the width of the stripes was random.  I've almost got the hang of pillow design, fit is a big consideration and I've been playing with ease because they stretch quite a bit and fit best that way.

Playing with Noro

I'm sorry I've been very lazy the last two weeks and didn't make time for you. I guess it is a summer thing, what with all the heat here, but it also took a little time to recover from organizing Stitch 'n Pitch (which seems to have gone very nicely). Regardless, I apologize for being lax. 

I have actually been knitting away, in the interim, it takes a lot to stop these hands.  Above is a most recent FO, a Noro Striped Pillow for the store. I`ve never made a pillow before, despite the fact that I have always admired them and wanted to make one. Sometimes I just need to try something new and see how it feels - keeps things interesting.  Also, we got a new table and chairs and home decor ( or homey retail decor) went to the top of my priorities.  Also, I had some Noro Blossom in my stash that needed to be used. Yes, yarn store owners have stashes. It became an exercise in creativity. The above pillow is the first, and granted, the regular striping isn`t very creative. I`m working on logistics, size and fit, and the next one that is already on the needles is a little more interesting. BTW, the contrast yarn is Lana Grossa Baby Kid (held double), a very soft mohair-microfiber blend, made in Italy. The yarn was chosen to compliment the texture of the Noro Blossom, and also because it was sitting on the sale shelf.
