Mohair Magic

I am so pleased to report that this was a very satisfying finished object!  It is a Prism Wrap made with Noro Silk Garden and Debbie Bliss Angel (held double).  It only used 2 skeins of each yarn, and was a great use of a muted (ie. blah) Noro colourway. Plus the kid mohair adds a light, airiness which feels delicious. It also lends it a soft aura that  is snuggly and pretty, without being wintry. The pattern is a no brainer, and the size comes out just right for spring warmth. Me likey - I'm glad I thought of it!  :-)

Ombre for Spring

Just a quick update! I've been busy, and most of the stuff I've been working on has been in bits and bobs, but here's one you might be interested in. It's an Ombre Cowl (free pattern on ravelry), made with 3 different shades of Debbie Bliss Angel kid mohair. But you see more than 3 colours in the picture above?  That is correct, the cowl is knit holding 2 strands of yarn together at the same time, and the fluffiness of the mohair blends the strands masterfully. 


Stripe 1: dark grey & dark gery
Stripe 2: dark grey & light grey
Stripe 3: light grey & light grey
Stripe 4: light grey & blue
Stripe 5: blue & blue


The cowl is light and airy and I think it will be lurvly on chilly, rainy spring days. I think I can finish it tonight, just in time for the thunder storm tomorrow morning!

Finished - Aviatrix Baby Hats

Finito!  I made these two little Aviatrix Baby Hats with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran for my cousin`s new twins. Luckily, the babies are fraternal, so I got to use the pink and the blue!  The Cashmerino was really nice to work with and I think it will be especially well received (the palette is right on and the texture can`t be beat). The pattern was pretty straight-forward. It took a bit more time than I expected, but it looks great and is more interesting than a plain, old hat.  

I think the pattern would work especially well with a slightly textured yarn, which would disguise the short-row wraps. On the blue I tried unwrapping the wraps and knitting them in, but it didn`t make a difference in appearance, so just knit right over your wraps like Jussi directs. I was also a big confused bu the yarn suggestion - they used a DK, but knit it on a 4.5mm needle and got a gauge of 4.5 sts per inch. I wen`t with the suggested gauge and used a yarn thant knits up at 18 sts & 24 rows over 4 inches.

Cashmerino Baby Jacket

Another store project down!  This is our Baby Jacket in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.  The pattern was the right price (free) and very simple. You knit the body and arms in one piece, then pick up stitches for the ribbed edging around the neck and fronts (very easy, don't worry). 

As for the yarn, it is not surprisingly soft, but also has a very nice body and squish to it. It also seems to be one of those yarns that just goes farther than you expect. 

Anyway, two thumbs up! Nice yarn, nice pattern, fast & easy - me likey!

Store Project: Ribbed Baby Jacket by Debbie Bliss

I thought I should update you on our latest project for the store, we are making the Ribbed Baby Jacket by Debbie Bliss (a free pattern available online) in the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in colour Pea Green no 502.  The yarn has been on the market for a while but we have only just started carrying it. An the results: so far, so good!  The yarn has a very stretch quality so it goes further than a regular merino (the smallest size only uses 4 balls max). It is super soft and has a very satisfying squish to it. Squish, squish, squish!  It's definitely in the petting yarn spectrum. 

This is the colour we are using, Pea Green.  I think it's closer to pea soup green, but that's not really relevant. One thing for sure, Debbie Bliss's design sensibility is always impeccable. The yarn colours are gorgeous and the patterns are always lovely - she's the Martha Stewart of knitting.

Oh, and as for the pattern, it's a pretty simple little thing. The sweater is knit in one piece (back, arms, fronts), seamed up the sides and down the arms, and then the ribbed collar is picked up & knitted. Super cute!
