Works include: "Kusama's Self-Obliteration," Yayoi Kusama/Jud Yalkut, 16mm, 1964, 24 mins The film was conceived as a portrait of the Yayoi Kusama and her work of two decades, and a progressively involving and engrossing experience that could possibly project the viewer into the screen. "When This You See...", Elaine Reichek, video, 1998, 17 mins Nine appropriated film clips from sources such as Heavenly Creatures (1994) and Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) show women stitching. Each segment reveals a dramatic moment in the movie's story, and then ends with a freeze-frame over which the artist superimposes a single word, cataloging the act ("betrayal," "revolution," "revenge," etc) each woman's handcraft symbolizes. "Odd Fellows," Alee Peoples, Super-8 to video, 2006, 5 mins A short documentary on the Odd Fellows, a fraternal order begun in England as an offshoot of the Masons. "Paracas," Cecilia Vicuña, 16mm to video, 1993, 18 mins Conceived as a visual and sound poem in seven scenes, this animation of a 2,000 year-old textile now in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum invites entrance into a different visual and sonic space. The textile, interpreted here as a celebration of the Thread of Life, was constructed in a sculptural, three-dimensional looping technique developed by the ancient artists of the Paracas/Nazca region of Peru. "Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft and Design" (excerpt from the feature film to be released 2009), Faythe Levine, video, 20 mins A documentary exploring the rise of DIY art, craft, and design in the United States. The heart of this new wave of creativity is the community, which is equally influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Faythe Levine, Elaine Reichek and Cecilia Vicuña. i'm still working on the "what makes you hate a LYS" ravelry thread from yesterday - page 37. i don't normally read a lot of this online stuff, i prefer looking at pictures. there's a lot of spleen being vented! gleaning some insights into people, some things i'd rather not know - about people in general, not specific individuals. this thread is HILARIOUS!

Progress Marches On ...



The progress on my Sahara in Dave Svale. I just started the bottom border last night, so not long now! I'm making it longer, I want a tunic for sailing & etc.

The stolen pattern issue has been resolved by asking for my pattern to be taken down. It seems that to get etsy to take it down you have to lawyer up.

I've been sick with a cold since monday. I decided to get back to the starbuck revisions, but it confused even me, so i decided to approach it from a different point of view, from the top down. one i figure out the starting numbers it'll fly.

my mantra is KISSASS: keep it simple, sexy and stylish stupid.

This is a simple, easy to knit neck-down cardigan/jacket, with V-line front panels and 1/2 sleeves. There is no seaming because the arms are knit in the round and the body is worked in 1 piece with raglan decreases. It will also work up fast because it is knit with bulky yarn.

Oy, long bar & bat mitzvah yesterday in niagara falls! the kids kicked ass, they practically led the whole service.

today was going to be weaving in the ends on the instant grat sweater & maybe some pictures if the light was good, show you the sahara progress, but i came into a problem in my e-mail. A young woman who goes by the psedonym "The Bag Doll" (www.thebagdoll.blogspot.com) has takem my Eco Warrior Crochet Bag pattern, including the photo, and is selling it on Etsy as her own .... for the sake of posterity i'll post the listing below, since etsy will be taking it down soon (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10465132). i'm not a copyright nazi, but she didn't even ask me! So i took some time to write to Etsy, and while i was doing that i decided to take a peek and see if she's stolen any others .... several. as a good citizen i wrote to another 3 people to let them know about their own burglaries.

I was going to contact the bag doll and yell a bit but i think i'd prefer it if Etsy just comes down on her hard & heavy.
