steve's hat

recently finished ... steve's hat!
i felt guilty about having done ursula's hat ut not steve's, 'specially since he commissioned it in august.
Pattern: London Beanie
Yarn:
Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk Aran in Sea Green (05) and Mustard Yellow (08)
Luxury Nazca (Alpaca & Silk) in Orange (666 - apparently marled orange is the colour of the beast ... who knew?) 2 strands held together.
Assignment:
make an orange hat that does not overwhelm or clash with skin tone.
Results:
happy. very soft, light hat, easy knitting. steve likes it. i recommend more hasts in alpaca silk blends (too bad the DB colours aren't more sophisticated.
Love the contrast of the marled yarn and the plain yarn - gives it a reconstructed-retro aesthetic, a little bit of salvage bricolage.

FREE: Big Beret Pattern (knitting)
steve bought his wife a scarf from me last october. it was one of the lang tosca ones from the distributor. A week later steve's wife came in and bought the same scarf for herself. Steve came back, beside himself, with the original scarf. He thought he'd nailed x-mas. I told him no problem, i'll make a hat to match. i waited. i procrastinated and i practiced. he popped by yesterday afternoon and said "where's the hat? we're leaving tomorrow night." tomorrow night?! what's up with that? x-mas ain't till saturday! i ribbed and i ripped and knitted and ribbed. and it was done by the time i left work (at midnight). now i've just got to finish steve's hat. this was from the previous lopi book 24, but its growing on me still. i think it needs a bigger neck, but i like it over jeans as a tunic dress. i wonder if there's any way to get the ribbing more uniform. it looks like a layer cake in the pic.
