long socks, originally uploaded by myhighfiber.

i'm gonna make 'em! i'm gonna make these socks from handknit holidays by melanie falick i've got strange amber Koigu on sale that i'm going to overdye (the colour is wrong). Tomrrow, GNS Dyes!

but which colour? DKNY & Burberry & marni & balenciaga showed black legs for fall. Prada wasn't too helpful, all nude there. awh, they're all black!

multiringel sock

multiringel sock, originally uploaded by myhighfiber. Melanie's sock in Lana Grossa Millenwiet Cotton Multiringel (stripes). she says she likes a crochet cast off for the ribbing to keep it stretchy.

lang sock

lang sock, originally uploaded by myhighfiber. i made another sock! finished this one at hemingway's on tuesday night. i'm not a very fun person to take out, apparently hemingway's is a notorious pick-up bar. i don't care, i knit everywhere!

next victim!

, originally uploaded by myhighfiber. making another wavy skirt (interweave knits spring 2005) ... i can stop any time i want. actually, i'm obsessed with the colour ultramarine and i can already see this skirt with a contrasting top in coral cascade fixation. i'm using South West Trading Bamboo in electric blue. the bamboo is so pretty, its got a slightly rough texture which i like, knits up matte, should soften with a wash in the Eucalan before blocking (the test swatches did). it's definitely easier to work with since i made the socks, my dexterity with the yarn has improved immensely. i highly recommend sock knitting.

leftovers

i have exactly 50g left of the 100g ball of Opal Handpaints i used for the ankle socks. so i guess i could get a second pair out of them if i wanted to. i knit on a 2.75mm needle because i don't like them really tight, but i haven't washed them yet, so i may choose to go down a size.

it's a pair!

, originally uploaded by myhighfiber.

that wasn't so hard at all! next time i make them i'm going to do them at the same time so i don';t get second sock malaise. i've already got some yarns picked out for my next pair. of course the irony of makign wool socks just as the hot weather hits isn't lost on me. but the cool weather might come back, and i'll be happy to have them come the cold weather. and they are just plain coolio! i'm going to keep making socks all summer actually 'cause it really helped improve my dexterity knitting on the tiny needles and it seems to make knitting with other fine yarns and fussy textiles much easier.

anyway, the next pair will be cotton socks, found some super fun party confetti coloured cotton from Lang Jawool Cotton. it's got white & yellow & orange & pink!

a very good thing

my new fave knitting tote comes from the LCBO. i pop it into my other bags and its like a liner with pockets. keeps all my projects from getting tangled, but i can still carry them around & covet them. me likey.

lana grossa mega boot stretch

lana grossa mega boot stretch, originally uploaded by myhighfiber.

i think the colours are supposed to be richer, and of course the detail at the top has got to go, but somehow these stockings are growing on me. anyway, the yarn is DK weight so it wouldn't take forever and it has elastic in it.

the yarn is lana grossa mega boots stretch colour 8833 from pattern book Filati Accessories no. 3, www.lana-grossa.com, (a deal, for only six bucks you get lots of great accessories patterns and lots of bad ones too).

a sock is born!

, originally uploaded by myhighfiber.

my first finished sock in sock yarn ... exploring short row shaping with the toe-up technique. it was actually much easier than the regular method, makes the whole thing totally brainless. a good thing to do when you're feeling your creativity waning. made with Opal Handpaints sock yarn. it's a bit scratchy compared to the Lana Grossa , Scheepjes and Lang yarns, but i guess it is the hand dyeing process that roughs up the cuticle because everyone raves about Opal. but more important, i figured out how to upload my pictures directly from the camera-phone to my Flickr account! look forward to many more bad pics taken on the go with my phone!
